Otto G%C3%BCnsche


Otto Gnsche was a Sturmbannfhrer in the WaffenSS and a member of 1st SS Division Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler before he became Adolf Hitlers personal adjutant. He was captured by soldiers of the Red Army onMay 1945. After various prisons and labour camps in the USSR, he was released from Bautzen Penitentiary onMay 1956.

Gnsche was born in Jena in Thuringia. After leaving secondary school athe volunteered for the Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler and joined the Nazi Party onJuly 1934. He first met Adolf Hitler in 1936. He was Hitlers SS adjutant from 1940 to 1941. FromJanuary 1941 toApril 1942, he attended the SS officers academy. He then had frontline combat service as a Panzer Grenadier company commander with the LSSAH. OnJanuary 1943, Gnsche became a personal adjutant for Hitler. From August 1943 toFebruary 1944, Gnsche fought on the Eastern Front and in France. In March 1944 he was again appointed a personal adjutant for Hitler. As a personal SS adjutant to Hitler, Gnsche was also a member of the Fhrerbegleitkommando which provided security protection for Hitler. During the war, one or two were always present with Hitler during the military situation conferences. He was present at theJuly 1944 attempt to kill Hitler at the Wolfs Lair in Rastenburg.
